Meetings are from 11.00 a.m. - approximately 4.00 p.m. unless otherwise stated. Bring packed lunch and appropriate footwear. Please contact the leader if you wish to attend. Sat 28 April: Shipley Bridge. Joint meeting with the Devon Bryology Group to look at mosses and liverworts. Meet at Shipley Bridge car park at SX680628. (Leaders Roy Jeffery - 01752 788352 and Mark Pool - 01803 316154, or e-mail.)

Sat 19 May: Martinhoe. A walk along the north Devon coast to enjoy good scenery, birdlife, higher plants, bryophytes and lichens. Meet at the car park east of Martinhoe (SS674484) (Leaders Maxine Putnam - 01271 865569, e-mail, and Tony Holwill)

Sun 15 July: The Bolts Again (minus the Red Arrows). The main thrust of this visit will be to compare the flora of the five areas of mire between Bolt Head and Soar Mill Cove, and to admire the colony of Rumex rupestris in Soar Mill Cove. Sun 5 August: Meldon. Acid grassland, wet flushes and a bog. Meet at Meldon Dam car park SX561917. (Leader Bob Hodgson - 01822 852826, e-mail)

Sun 12 August. Throwleigh. A search for the elusive bog orchid. Meet at cross-roads at SX659898. (Leader David Allen - 01404 861394).

Sun 19 August: Challacombe, Dartmoor. Meet in the car park a little SW of Challacombe Cross at SX6933.8288 on the B3212 between Postbridge and Mortonhamstead NW of the Warren House Inn. Before lunch we will explore the stream here and roadsides south towards Grimm's Pound. After lunch we will move to the Bennett's Cross car park and explore the area of old mine workings to the south. We should see Stag'shorn Clubmoss (Lycopodium clavatum) in at least one place together with an interesting range of other moorland species. (Leader Roger Smith - 01626 368577, e-mail.)

Saturday 19 January 2013: Botany Section AGM - Longdown Village Hall (SX862913) at 11.00 a.m. Longdown is on the B3212, around 4 miles west of Exeter. The village hall is in the lane leading to Tedburn St Mary, signposted to the right just beyond the Lamb Inn. Hall open from 10.30 a.m. The AGM will be followed by a short slide-show and specimens will be on display. In the afternoon there will also be an informal walk to look at lichens and bryophytes in the vicinity and tea will be available at the AGM venue. ‘Plants for all Seasons’
As part of the celebrations of the Devonshire Association’s 150th anniversary, the Botany Section is running a short programme of walks under the title ‘Plants for all Seasons’. These are half day events aimed at the general public, but members are welcome to attend (although where numbers are limited priority will be given to non-members). Note the varying start times. Where indicated you should book a place with the leader.

Saturday 10th March: Wild daffodils on the Axmouth-Lyme Regis Undercliffs National Nature Reserve. Meet at junction of Stepps Lane and Barn Close Lane, Axmouth (SY266903) at 10am. Very rough terrain, so stout boots required. Leader: David Allen. Booking required – please call 01404 861394

Saturday 12th May: A Bluebell Spectacular, at Holwell Lawn, Dartmoor, by kind permission of South Devon Pony Club. Meet at Houndtor Rock car park (SX739792) at 11am. A short (2 mile) walk. Refreshments available in the car park. Leader: Frances Billinge. A joint meeting with the Devon Wildlife Trust.

Saturday 16th June: An orgy of orchids on Braunton Burrows UNESCO biosphere reserve. Meet at Sandy Lane car park (SS463351) at 2:30pm. Leader: Mary Breeds.

Saturday 30th June: The rare plants of Berry Head. Meet at Berry Head Visitor Centre (SX940561) at 10:30am. Leader: Bob Hodgson. Booking required – please call 01822 852826 or e-mail.
